Editorial Policies
Authorship
An author is an individual who has made a significant, meaningful, and identifiable contribution to the design, performance, analysis, and reporting of the work described in a manuscript. It is the responsibility of each individual listed as an author on a manuscript submitted to Journal of Science & Technology (JST) to have met this standard.
JST follows the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) recommendations, which base authorship on the following four criteria:
- Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work, or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work.
- Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content.
- Final approval of the version to be published.
- Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Each author must confirm, in writing, that they meet these criteria prior to publication. At least one named individual must accompany any group authorship.
Corresponding Authors
JST permits only one corresponding author per manuscript. This individual is solely responsible for all correspondence with the journal throughout the submission, review, and publication process, and will receive all related communication.
Changes in Authorship
Requests to change the authorship of a submitted or published manuscript are handled in accordance with COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines. Only the corresponding author may submit such a request, in writing, to the editorial office.
Submission of Manuscripts
Authors should review the Author Guidelines before submission and prepare manuscripts according to JST's specifications. All listed authors must meet the authorship criteria above and must approve the final version of the manuscript prior to submission; submission is taken as confirmation that all authors have read and approved it. Full contact information (affiliation, email, phone) must be provided for all authors, and any conflicts of interest must be declared in the manuscript.
Conflicts of Interest
A conflict of interest exists when there is a divergence between an individual's private interests and their responsibilities to scientific and publishing activities, such that a reasonable observer might question whether their judgment was influenced by competing interests (World Association of Medical Editors, WAME).
Authors must disclose all financial or other relevant interests that may have influenced the manuscript. Reviewers must disclose any conflict of interest and decline to review manuscripts where one exists. Editors must similarly recuse themselves from manuscripts involving a conflict of interest, which will be reassigned to another editor.
Duplicate Publication
By submitting a manuscript, authors affirm that no substantially similar manuscript is under consideration or will be submitted for publication elsewhere while under review at JST.
Confidentiality
JST does not disclose submitted manuscripts to any third party. All correspondence with the journal — including with editors, handling editors, and reviewer reports — is treated as confidential and will not be shared without explicit consent.
Data Integrity and Plagiarism
All accepted manuscripts are screened for plagiarism prior to publication and re-screened before final publication to confirm no instances remain. JST investigates all reports of suspected research misconduct in its published work, including plagiarism, data fabrication or manipulation, and duplicate publication. Depending on the outcome of an investigation, JST may publish an erratum or corrigendum, or retract the article, in accordance with COPE retraction guidelines.
